Whoever prayed for snow in Southern Manitoba??
IMAKEELYU!!!

Went to Winkler to spend the day with the In-Laws.
Drive out was fine.
Hung out, had food (OMGFOOD), opened presents, the usual awesomesauce stuff.
Got some wikked gear - new pj's (utterly adorable), a teacup, sockies, some drinking glasses, and some other stuff that is all packed in the car.
We watched a couple of movies, had a bit of a nap, ate a little more, watched another movie... and then it was 9 and we figured that we should go home.
Well.
Oh.
My...
GOODNESS...

it took us 20 minutes to get the car out of the parking spot. This should have been a sign.

We made it to three-mile corner, and promptly got stuck.
I prayed, and within a minute or less, six people had stopped to push us out. We got out, and then had to turn around. Good thing the police were on hand to push us out of THAT one.

Then we turned around and came back to Winkler. And got stuck trying to get into the driveway.
So, we shoveled, got the car in, and came in to relax. And now I am blogging. I am pathetisad.

but I am safe and that is what matters.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

To append my last entry: Andrew and I had a Talk today. It ended in a List. Several Lists, in fact. Several very DETAILED Lists. I'm glad it didn't end the way it did in my dreams. That would not have been pretty.

Okay, now that THAT bit of business is out of the way!!

I say again, HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!!!! (and merry hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, and yule, and other holidays)

When I was born, mom and dad decided that presents would be opened on Christmas Eve, so that they would not have to endure getting woken up at 5am by a bouncing child. So, for twenty four years, I have opened presents on Christmas eve with my family. (One year I was in New York for Christmas, and one year I decided we would open presents on Christmas morning, Just To See How It Would Go. It was Not A Good Plan.) Though, in my defense, I have never been so excited about something that I do not sleep. Nor do I get up before I absolutely must. I like to sleep. But I digress.

This year was no different. After church, we got into comfy clothes, and sat around and ate copious amounts of food - quiche tarts, spring rolls, chicken fingers (and their respective sauces), cheese, crackers, and then after presents we had pie and cookies and homemade clodhoppers.

While the food was warming up, we did stockings. I got a mini penguin calendar from Andrew, chocolate from my mom and dad, and magnets, chocolate and tea towels from me. (Yes, I stick stuff in my stocking. I bought it for myself and decided to gift it for Christmas)
Then food, and then presents.
Andrew and I each got a fold-out shovel for our cars, and then we got a set of Corningware baking dishes. And Andrew bought me a winter parka.
Andrew also got some photo prints of waterfalls from BC, a piece of art, and a beard trimmer from me, and a screwdriver from my parents. And a teatowel, fridge magnet, and lots of chocolate in his stocking.

Mom and dad got some cool stuff too.

And I know it's not about stuff. It was an awesome Christmas, full of laughter, love, and good feelings. I love my fam!!!

And now, I have to get to bed, because we are leaving at the crack of dawn for Winkler, so that my soon-to-be sister does not have to wait too long to open presents.

Have a fantastic holiday with whomever you spend it with, and remember that this crazy Elfin Archer thinks you rock!! *GLOMP*

Anecdote from the weekend:

Andrew and I were at Tim Horton's, grabbing breakfast on Saturday morning. My hands were full of tea and sammich, so Andrew went around and opened my door for me. He waited while I got in, settled myself, and then closed the door for me and started to walk around the car to his side.
A guy in a truck that was driving by rolled down the window and yelled out, "WOW!!!!! Chivalry ISN'T dead! Thanks buddy, you're making the rest of us look bad!"

It made me smile. It's not something he does to show off. It doesn't matter where we are. He always opens the door for me.

Also. For those who are in need of moisturizer: George's.
You know that feeling when you put on moisturizer, and it feels like you're wearing a latex glove or something? You just feel YUCKY and GROSS and you want to go shower all that moisturizer OFF your skin... Yeah. This doesn't have that. It rubs in, and you forget about it.
Also. Unscented. Specially formulated for those with scent allergies. It smells VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY vaguely of something that is possibly cinnamon, but more than likely just the stuff that makes it moisturizer.
AND it makes the itching and flaking stop.

George's, you are the WIN.

THEY MADE WHIPLASH COOL. WHAT.

(here's what whiplash USED to look like, btw. lol dorky purple suit)

Also, apparently miniature arc reactors can only ever be built in a cave or a cave-like environment. No wonder the Stark Industries technicians couldn't get it right.

I have just realized that I am entirely too self-centred these days, and have possibly alienated my two best friends because I talk about nothing but me and my problems.

Erica, Andrea, I am so sorry. You reserve the right to smack me. Please do, in fact. I have been a downright AWFUL friend the last four months. Please forgive me, and hold me accountable for changing my behaviour.

Because I need to talk less, and listen more. Especially where you are concerned.

oh god

The week between Christmas and New Year's is traditionally the lowest-traffic week of the year for my site, and I'm gonna be out of town anyway, so I thought I might try something a little different this year. Here's a teaser for my idea:

I've already got the basic idea for the story and will hopefully start working on it before we drive down to Maryland (one advantage of driving down is I can actually bring my big Cintiq with me) for the holiday. Of course, going over my outline and idea list, this might end up being MORE work than the usual QC strips >.<

So uh I no promises yet I guess, but hopefully I won't puss out and will actually get this done.

Andrew and I went on a date last night to celebrate the beginning of holidays, and hopefully the ending of stress for this year.
We went out for supper, and to a movie. We haven't seen a movie in theatres for a while. He told me to pick something that I would like to see, and he would make no comments about it.

I looked at the movie list and did a lot of debating. I finally decided on a movie that I knew he would like, but I wasn't sure if I would. I knew he had said to pick a movie that I wanted to see, but for some reason, I just wasn't feeling like seeing New Moon, or the one about the Morgans. So, I picked a different one.

And man, am I glad I did. it was SPECTACULAR.
spoilers for AVATAR... sort of. More .... cut for length )
The movie really is phenomenal. It's incredibly emotional - both with the genuineness of the characters emotions, but also in evoking the emotion in the viewer, it's awe inspiring (oh my GOODNESS, the TREEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!), and it makes you really, really think.

and it makes Andrew squee like a little girl on Christmas morning. And who am I to argue with his happiness?

Tubgirl staggered and finally collapsed. "You...you have defeated me," she gasped.

"No," Fart-chan replied. "It was you who defeated yourself."
